The world-famous Hungarian composer Ferenc Liszt (22.10.1811.-31.07.1886) specially composed for the new organ of Riga Cathedral built by Walcker & Co the prelude to the chorale “Nun danket alle Gott” (“Now thank we all our God”) for the opening of the organ on 19 January 1884 (Julian Calendar, 31 January according to the present-day Gregorian Calendar).
The commemorative plaque is a gift of the Hungarian Embassy to the Riga Cathedral to emphasize the pages of the joint history of Hungary and Latvia, and to attract the attention of visitors to this wonderful musical instrument and the greatness of that time.
