In the center of the tombstone is an angel holding a shield with the interlocking initials HV in his outstretched hands.
Below it are the words:
Hinrich Flögell und seine Erben.
Above the angel holding the shield the inscription:
Hie ruh ich in mein Bettelein
Her Jesu Christ vorgis nicht mein
Wenn Du am jungsten Tag wirst kommen
Zu richten uber Boes und Frommen
Las mich den sehen in Ewigkeit
Das Wesen der Dreifaltigkeit.
The inscription around the tombstone is interrupted by the symbols of the evangelists at the four corners:
A=1622 den 14. Aprilis starb Hinrich Flügel dem Got g. A=1648 den 27. Feb. starb Helena Pael seine Hausfraw.
It is not known who Hinrich Flägel was, nor is it known whether he died young or old. However, if you take into account the place of his burial and the splendor of the stone, he must have been a well-known and well-situated person. His wife comes from an old Riga family, Pael. Both are parents of the burgomaster and burgrave Johann Flügel, who were appointed as aristocrats by Queen of Sweden Christine, with the name von Flügel.
