“Pelican”

Created: at Kahlert & Weber stained glass workshop in Riga (?)

Date: 1890- 1900 (?)

Material: Painted glass, lead

In the Centre of the stained-glass window is a decorative and visually expressive medallion of glass painting, with a pelican feeding its young with its own breast blood. Church iconography, in the art of the Evangelical churches, has widely employed this symbol of Christian love of one’s neighbor, and self-denial.
