The tombstone was placed in its current location during the restoration works of the Church in 1959-1962.
The composition of the tombstone is based on a medieval scheme, the sides of the stone slab are covered by bands, in which the text was placed, now faded. Evangelists and their symbols are placed in corner medallions. In the upper left corner – Angel, the symbol of the evangelist Matthew, in the upper right corner – a lion, the symbol of the evangelist Mark, in the lower right corner – an Ox, the symbol of the evangelist Luke, in the lower left corner – an eagle, the symbol of the evangelist John.
In the central part of the plate, an architectural composition with a portal is reproduced. Two pilasters support the entablature, in which is the text: TOR EWIGN_ GEDECHNIS. (
for eternal memory)
Lion masks are placed on the protrusions above the pilasters. The structure is closed by a triangular pediment, in the center of which is a skull and a tibia. On the edges of the pediments, putti figurines with twisted blowing horns are lying like heralds of the last judgment.
In the part of the plinth, in the scrollwork cartouche, text:
DISES BEGRABNVS GE
HORET DEN ENSAMBTLI
CHEN WEINKUPERGESEL
LEN EK BVND MEST
ZV RENOVAT MEST
DIE 6 X 1722
In the central part is the coat of arms of Cologne, below it are two goats who holds a shield with a circle and an axe.
